A Permanent Home For Maine State Music Theatre
In September 2001 the Maine State Music Theatre Board of Trustees voted to stay in Brunswick, affirming our commitment to this community, and to continue to mount productions at
Pickard Theater on the Bowdoin College campus. As a result, the staff and Board focused their
attention on making MSMT a more viable organization by securing a building to call our own,
creating stability and opportunities for long-term growth.
After much research and many building tours, in September 2002 the Board boldly moved
forward and purchased the former Maine Line Transportation building at the corner of Elm and
Middle Streets in Brunswick. This 25,000 square foot structure provides permanent space
for the Theatre’s entire technical and administrative operations. For the first time in 45 years,
Maine State Music Theatre has a permanent year-round address — a home of its own.
Embarking on its grandest production of all, this purchase, renovation, and expansion of a
new building requires the Theatre to raise at least $2.3 million in new funds. With full participation from the board and generous support from our audience, we have only $300,000 left to go
to reach our goal!
We hope you will reflect on the value of MSMT to this community and region and to you as
an individual and feel moved to join us in this grand effort. Your active involvement is greatly
needed and appreciated. Please consider the various pledge levels, which are payable over a
five-year period.
- Leadership Gifts ($25,000 and above)
- Major Gifts ($3,000 to $24,999)
- Community Gifts (up to $2,499)
With your help, we can guarantee the future of Maine State Music Theatre—a true Maine
cultural gem. For more information, please contact Barbara Whidden, Administrative Assistant
by phone at (207)725-8760 ext. 15.
Annual Campaign - An Ongoing Effort
Maine State Music Theatre needs you. As a non-profit organization in the community of
Brunswick, MSMT is committed to our mission statement “to offer engaging, live professional
performances and outreach opportunities that entertain, educate, and enrich lives with power
and passion.” We strive to the highest level of professionalism in our production values, our
performers, and our facilities. Every time you buy a ticket, you are not only gaining entry to a
exciting evening of musical theatre, you are contributing to the success of this company.
Unfortunately, however, we cannot survive on ticket sales alone. Contributions from individuals
and businesses enable us to continue not only producing quality shows for paying audiences,
but also to continue to educate young professionals through our acclaimed Theatre Intern
Program, to commission and produce new works like Frank Loesser’s Hans Christian Andersen and Chamberlain, and to provide discounted tickets to students and senior citizens.
There is an ever-growing list of individuals who believe that musical theater at MSMT is worth
supporting, and have generously made financial contributions. We urge you to consider lending your financial support also because when it comes down to it, individuals make
us sing and dance!
Contributors are listed in each show program at the following giving levels:
- Director — $1,000 and up
- Musical Director — $500 - $999
- Choreographer — $250 - $499
- Performer — $100 - $249
Please contact Barbara Whidden, Administrative Assistant, by phone at (207)725-8760 ext. 15
to discuss any questions you may have about contributing to MSMT. Donations can be mailed
to our office at 22 Elm St., Brunswick, ME 04011 (attn: Development) or simply given to the
box office staff.
Thank you for supporting Maine State Music Theatre.
